Bailey, Colorado

Listen to Obituary

Tom (please don’t call him Thomas, although that was his legal name) Richard Lindsey was born February 15, 1955 in Santa Monica, California, to Beverly Virginia Leininger and Alvey Percy Lindsey. He grew up in Hawthorne, CA and attended Lawndale High School. He had a daughter, Candace, and a son, Christopher, with his first wife Cynthia Lando.

He moved to Colorado in the early 1980’s. Tom loved all animals and embraced the abundant wildlife that Colorado had to offer. He lived in Foxton for a few years before buying his home in Bailey where he lived the rest of his life. He bought birdseed specific for the kinds of birds that came to his feeders. He laughed at the antics of the bears that came to raid those feeders, and got a few of the deer to take corn from his hand. He brought home a coyote that was dazed from being hit by a car and kept it safe until it was ready to be returned to the wild.

He married Janis Pixler on May 15, 1998. She got him to travel to Alaska, Hawai’i, Washington, and Louisiana; places he’d read about but never expected to see. Even in those faraway places, Tom preferred the animals, noting the ones he saw in his travel journal, rather than the sites they saw or the things they did.

Tom spent most of his working life in materials management, beginning at Lear Siegler, then Northwest Pipe, and finally retiring from DISH/EchoStar. He was good at what he did and took pride in being the “go-to guy”, but work was only to pay the bills. His heart was at his home in the hills.

Tom died suddenly April 30, 2026, sitting on the porch swing of his deck, at home where he wanted to be. He is survived by his wife, Janis Pixer-Lindsey, family and friends.
