Thomas Whitney, aged 94, of Aurora, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 25, 2026. Born on June 13, 1932, in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, he was the cherished son of Raymond and Mabel Whitney.

A dedicated serviceman, Thomas enlisted in the Air Force, where he served as an air traffic controller. His distinguished military career included tours of duty in Morocco, Turkey, and Vietnam, particularly at Pleiku along the DMZ  and in Saigon during the evacuation. He also notably contributed to landing training jets at Lowry Air Force Base and served at Buckley Airfield. He retired as a Master Sergeant, proud of his contributions to the nation.

Following his military service, Thomas moved into the hospitality industry, managing the downtown Pittsburgh Hilton. In 1981, he returned to Colorado and joined the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller and trainer, contributing his expertise at both Stapleton and Denver International Airport until his retirement in 1997.

Thomas leaves behind a loving family: his children—Raymond, Edward, Thomas, Lori, Mary, and Joseph—along with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Honoring Thomas’s wishes, no formal services or memorials will be held. He expressed a desire for burial at sea.
