Tip B. Pirkle Jr. passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at his home in Aurora, Colorado. He was born October 23, 1927 to Tip B. Pirkle Sr. and Mattie Pearl (Zinn) Pirkle in Modesto, California. He moved to New Mexico with his family where he attended school, graduated from Causey High School in 1944. Tip was a great baseball pitcher until he lost his left arm in a farm accident in 1944. He was an amazing man, accomplished so much with his handicap.
He came to Limon in 1946 where he helped manage the Ideal Cafe with his brother. While in Limon he met and married Inga Kristine Norbye in 1947 in Denver. He also managed and worked at the Montezuma Hotel in Burlington and also the Midwest Hotel in Limon before moving to Denver to work for the Colorado Department of Highways as a Right-of-Way Agent in 1956. He retired in 1988.
Tip is survived by his wife Inga, one son and his wife Terry and Norma, two daughters Janet Welch and Jill Creighton. Seven grandchildren Debani, Caylan, and Tipi Pirkle, Casey and Cortnee Creighton, Zachary and Skyler Welch, and two great grandchildren Hayleigh and Zachary Olaf Welch. Also special to him were Adam Garcia, Sean Renko and Brian Redmon. One brother Winston (Jean) Pirkle, three sister in-laws, Violet Pirkle, Laura Pirkle and Betty Neelson and many nieces and nephews he adored and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by an infant Baby Boy, his father Tip, mother Pearl, sister Sybil, and three brothers Cliff, Carrol and Lowell.
Memorial services are to be held at the Newcomer Family Funeral Home, East Metro Chapel, 190 Potomac Street, Aurora, CO 80011 on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 3 o'clock PM.
