Our Beloved Tomas Pedro Redding "Papo" was born March 6,1928 in New York. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and was stationed in the Pacific, and saw many countries while serving.
He and his fellow sailors were witness to one of the most defining moments of the 20th Century. They saw the A-Bomb drop on Hiroshima, and could only describe it to us as: "Thinking the world was ending, the entire ship shook". He earned several medals, and awards for His service to His country, and was Honorably Discharged in 1945, and moved to Utah to work on the Naval Base, located in Clearfield.
In 1950 he met a young lady, who was working at the Ogden Arsenal, who would later become the Love of his Life, his Beloved Celina. They were married in 1953, at St.Joseph's Catholic Church in Ogden. They honeymooned in California, visiting Los Angeles, and San Diego.
Tomas and Celina moved to Denver in 1956, where they have been residents ever since.
Tomas became a Father in 1957, with the birth of their daughter Carmelita, in 1958 their son(s) Fernando, 1959 Francisco, 1963 Antonio (Tony).
Tomas worked at the Denver Federal Center, in Shipping and Receiving until his retirement in 1983.
Tomas became a Grandfather in 1980 with the birth of Carlos (Callo), 1990 Francisco Jr (Tico), 1993 Fernando (Nando). A Great-grandfather in 2009 with the birth of Sarah Rose.
Our Papo had many wonderful artistic talents, he was a musician, an incredible chef, he loved food he had a sophisticated palate, and loved preparing elaborate menus for our holiday dinners. He was a brilliant artist. Without professional training he created beautiful nature, and religious themed oil paintings on canvas.
He was a fan of Karate, he introduced all of his children to the sport. He loved comedy movies, anything Slap-Stick was right up his alley. He loved to play practical jokes on all members of his family, "Set them up" as he would say, and was a fan of all genres of music, especially Classical, New Age "Moon Music", and Salsa.
Papo taught us all many lessons, and we in our own ways are a lot like him, but for him family was first, he may not have made visible outward gestures of affection to everyone, but he made sure we were all taken care of, and knowing him he would not want anyone to know it was him who was helping out.
He will be missed greatly, but we take comfort in knowing he is "Eyeballing" us from above. We Love You Papo!
