Twyla M. Landau, age 98, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025. She was born in Friend, Nebraska, and graduated from South High School in Denver, Colorado. Twyla went on to earn a degree in Education from the University of Denver in 1948 where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.
Twyla was married to Dexter F. Landau for 54 wonderful years, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to each other and their family. They enjoyed traveling in their RV and attending art shows to exhibit Dexter's artwork. They also enjoyed traveling internationally. She was a dedicated teacher and served as the Girl's Dean and Social Studies Teacher for 25 years with Denver Public Schools, impacting the lives of countless students through her guidance and counseling.
Beyond her professional work, Twyla had a passion for the arts. She was a steadfast volunteer for the Theater Organ Society, where she contributed her time and energy to preserving the art of theater organs, especially at East HS, Denver.
Twyla was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her son, Steve Landau (Laurie Mack); daughter, Annette Schurich (Rob Schurich); grandchildren, Kendra Schurich, Alex Landau, and Maya Landau; and her sister, Bonnie Lighthall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dexter.
A memorial service will be held to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Denver Teachers club.
