Lakewood — Velma C. Ronzio, a long-time resident of Colorado, died Wednesday the 18th of November at Swedish Medical Center.
Velma was born May 18, 1940, in Glendale, Arizona to George Ross Mullins and Ora Lee Taylor. She married William Ronzio in 1956 and again in 1972. After having children, Velma worked as a Head Ward Clerk at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center until its closing in 1999, and then worked as an in-home caregiver until the time of her death.
Velma lived her life to the fullest, and never took a single day for granted. She was a caregiver in every sense of the word, from ensuring that everyone was always fed, to making handcrafted treasures for her family, to making donations to charities without telling a soul. She relished seeing the world; whether on travel adventures or being outdoors – especially in the mountains, the arts, and spending time with family - particularly her great-grandchildren. She always had a spunky personality that wouldn't allow her to pass up the opportunity to stop and dip her toes in a stream. She was one of the rare people who kept the childlike ability to make instant friends with anyone she met. She always took the time to walk slowly and find joy in the small things in life. She had an amazing zest for life and it was her contagious laughter and inviting smile that could light up a room.
She is survived by her siblings, Catherine Harry, Jimmy Mullins, R.J. Mullins, Benny Mullins, Edward Mullins and David Mullins; her children, Mark Ronzio, Cindy Greene and Scott Mack; her grandchildren, Michael Ronzio, JoLene Kucera, David Ronzio, Kyle Mack, Kristen Mack and Cedra Masias; and her great-grandchildren, Scarlett Ronzio, Owen Ronzio, Jaeden Kucera and Cooper Kucera.
Services will be held at 12:30pm., Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the Newcomer Funeral Home at 901 S. Sheridan in Lakewood. A short service will follow at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at 2:15pm.
Friends and family will meet at Golden Corral, 3677 S. Santa Fe Dr, at 3:15 pm following the graveside service.
The viewing will be at Newcomer Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 24 from 4-6pm.
When tomorrow starts without me,
and I'm not here to see,
if the sun should rise and find your
eyes, filled with tears for me.
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
the way you did today,
while thinking of the many things
we didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me,
as much as I love you,
and each time you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too.
When tomorrow starts without me,
don't think we are far apart
for every time you think of me
I'm right there in your heart
