Velva R. (Bambam) Marcus, of Aurora, Colorado, died at home on September 26, 2014 after a short battle with ovarian cancer. She was 86.
Velva was born on November 16, 1927 to William Buffington Powers and Beulah Henrietta (Swallow) Powers in Wellington, Colorado. She was the youngest of 5 children. Her siblings, Leslie, Maxine, Keith and Natalie, all preceded her in death. She lived on the family farm until the age of 17 when she moved to California with her sister, Maxine. She eventually made her way to Colorado where she met her future husband, Norman Eldon Marcus. They where married on July 18, 1950 in Tennessee where Norman was stationed with the Air Force. During Norman's time in the military they were fortunate to live in many places including Japan and Germany. After her husband's retirement to Aurora Velva took a job as an executive secretary. She worked for almost 20 years for Pastor Robert C. Frederich at Galilee Baptist Church. She was forced to leave that job shortly after Pastor Frederich was called to Portland, Maine.
Velva is survived by 2 daughters, Rebecca (Becky) Marcus and Stephanie Hanebrink, 8 grandchildren, Benjamin Keith Carnahan, Nathan Philip Carnahan, Adam Michael Carnahan, Morgan William Frederich Carnahan, Aaron David Carnahan, Hannah Ruth Carnahan, Isaac Alexander Carnahan, and Emma Kate Carnahan. She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren, Elliana Walz,6, Joseph Carnahan,6, and Clara Carnahan,3.
