Vera Chavez Haubensak passed away on Thursday, December 20, at home, with her daughter, Alison, by her side. Her stunning beauty, unconditional love and unwavering kindness were qualities admired by all.
Vera was born to the late Jose Maria and Helen Chavez on July 13, 1932 in Conejos, CO. She worked for the governor of New Mexico in Santa Fe early in her career and was honored to have met Harry S. Truman at the White House before returning to Colorado. Vera was a successful hairdresser and salon owner in Lakewood, CO, for over 25 years. Upon retirement she dedicated her life to volunteering at The Hospice of Sant John and Saint Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood. She was a priory member of The Order of Saint John which is committed to providing charitable work in the community.
Vera loved to travel whether it was cruising the Rhine River in Austria or a simple drive over Independence Pass.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Helen Chavez, brothers Charles, Joe and Manuel Chavez, nephew Joel Chavez and husband Paul. She is survived by her sister-in-law Phyliss Chavez of Lakewood, daughter Alison Ponsetti of Golden, son Scott Kancilia of Denver, granddaughter Chelsea Kancilia of Lakewood and numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
Please join with her family to celebrate her life at 11:00 AM on December 29, 2018 at Saint Bernadette's Catholic Church located at 7240 W. 12th Ave, Lakewood, CO 80214. There will be a reception at the church from 12:00 to 2:00.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Samaritan House Homeless Shelter in Denver or to Saint Bernadette's Catholic Church in Lakewood.
