Mrs. Verlena Green was born on August 4, 1922 in Morrilton, Arkansas to the union of Charlie and Hestoria (Richardson) Brockington. She was the third born of nine children. Her parents, her husband, P.L. Green, one daughter, Norma Dean, one son, David L. Green, five sisters, Gertha Stewart, Henrietta Gray, Rosie Brockington, Evelyn Gray and Lee Esther Richard, three brothers, A. C. Brown, Bogan Brown and K. C. Brown preceeded her in death.
Verlena accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was educated in Morrilton, Arkansas Public School System. Due to the early death of Verlena's mother she left school to raise her three younger sisters.
Verlena was united in Holy Matrimony to P. L. Green on June 3, 1939; ten children were born to this Union.
Verlena moved to Lilbourn, Missouri in 1944 and resided there until 1963 before moving to Kansas City, MO with her sister Henrietta. She relocated to St. Louis, MO in 1966 for eleven years before moving to Denver, CO in 1977.
Verlena was a homemaker and would open her doors to anyone that she could help with the help of God. She volunteered at various Food Banks.
Verlena was a member of West Denver Family Fellowship where she served as a faithful Mother until her health began to fail. Verlena loved her Family, her Church Family and was always willing to give her time where ever needed.
Verlena departed this life peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior at St. Anthony's Hospital, Lakewood, CO on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 10:30 am. She will be dearly missed.
She leaves to cherish her fond, loving, and caring memories: four sons and one daughter-in-law - John (Ethel) Green, Kansas City, MO, Eddie Green, St. Louis, MO, Johnny Green and Samuel Green, Denver, CO; four daughters - Geree Williams, Mae Alberts, and Shirley Green, Lakewood, CO and Vernell Green, St. Louis, MO; Nineteen grandchildren, Twenty-Four great-grandchildren, Nineteen great-great-grandchildren, Eight great-great-great-grandchildren; one sister - Florene Brown, Kansas City, MO and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
