Vernell Adeline Smith
1921 - 2012
Vernell passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2012 in Englewood, Colorado. She was born on November 1, 1921 in Larkspur, Colorado to David and Virginia Smith.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Dalton of Pueblo and brother, David Lee (Marlene) Smith of Canon City. Vernell graduated from Douglas County High School in 1937, and worked at Red Seal for 36 years.
Even though Vernell was never married or had her own children she was always a mother to those who needed her most and surrounded by countless nieces and nephews that she helped raise. Particularly Kathy, Keith, Kent, Deanna, Tina, Nikki, Mindy, Chad, Shane and Shelby who all loved and thought of her as a mother or grandmother.
She resided in Englewood Colorado where she cared for herself all but 10 months of her life, but always considered Larkspur Colorado her home and continued to visit the family home there every chance that she got.
She loved her family and was the "glue" that connected everyone. Loving, kind, giving, never judgmental, caretaker were a few qualities that endeared all who were around to her.
She enjoyed history, genealogy, reading the Bible, Elvis and Lawrence Welk on Sunday nights. Her entire family loved to visit her to look at pictures (ironic though that you never liked pictures of yourself) and hear all her stories of growing up in Colorado and reminding us of all the cute sayings our kids said to her over the years.
We will tell your stories and think of you often. Every "I love you", every story, every hug and every kiss, they are the things that we will miss.
We all couldn't have loved you more and you will always be remembered and missed!
With fond Memories!
