Vernon "Vern" Olin , of Lakewood passed away May 15th at the age of 82
He was born March 22nd, 1934 in Ft. Morgan, Colorado, the son of Jack and Margaret Olin.
He was a graduate of Alameda High School and lettered in multiple sports. He also dutifully served his country from 1956-1960. He was active Army followed by two years in the Marine Reserves.
On January 31st, 1959, he married Frances Morosan who also graduated from Alameda High.
Vern worked for Public Service Company of Colorado, now XCel Energy, for 41 years, and retired in March of 1994. During his employment, Vern remained a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Vern had many hobbies and stayed busy in retirement. He was an enthusiast of NASCAR and Indy car racing and spent his free time watching races. He was a Yankees fan and enjoyed all things baseball. He played, coached, and supported his family through the years. From T-ball to college ball, be it brother, sister, son or daughter, grandson, grand-daughter or anyone else in the family, if he wasn't in the dugout he was certainly in the stands.
Vern was an exceptional mechanic, loved classic cars and owned many in his lifetime. He was an avid gardener and spent many of his early years working on the farm. He loved dark tilled earth and had a appreciation for all things green. He also enjoyed carpentry and built clocks for his friends and family.
Above all, he will be remembered for raising a beautiful, strong, and caring family. He was a cherished friend and a devoted husband, son and brother. He was a loving father, grandfather and most recently a great grandfather and loved his family above all else.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Frances Olin, as well as three children, Valerie, married to Mark Hightower, Beverly, married to Mark Averitt, and Michael Olin, married to Christi. He is also survived by Six Grandchildren; Daniel Gonzalez, engaged to Jenn Holzworth, Jason Olin, engaged to Andrea Burgess, Brett Olin, girlfriend Jamie Gray, Jamie Olin, married to Tim Lorenz, Travis Hightower and Jordan Pierce; two Great-Grandchildren, Oliver Lorenz and Adeline Olin . Two Brothers, Dennis Olin, married to Ellen, and Larry Olin, married to Billie; Two Sisters, Judy VanMeter and Diana, married to Kenny Brown, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews innumerable.
He is preceded in death by Parents, Jack and Margaret Olin and a brother, Ronald Olin.
Vern leaves behind a legacy that will endure through his family and friends and he will be dearly missed.
