Veroqua E. Smith

Veroqua Earline Smith was born on September 11, 1924 in Norman, Oklahoma. Her parents were Earl J. and Odessa Simpson and she was their only child.
Veroqua met Shelby R. Smith at First Christian Church in Norman while they were students at Oklahoma University. They were married on August 18, 1945. They were married 58 years before his death in 2004.
Veroqua taught school for 26 years. 20 of those years were at Plum Creek Elementary in Douglas County where she taught 4th grade.
At Littleton Christian Church Veroqua taught 1st grade Sunday school class. She was in charge of "Young at Heart" for several years and called on shut-ins for many years.
Shelby and Veroqua helped start Green Mt. Christian Church. They were first members at South Suburban Christian Church when it was meeting at Grant Jr. High School. Later they "returned home" to present location of S. S. C. C.
They had four children: Gwen Keck, Phoenix, AZ; Hugh Smith, Canoga Park, CA; Renee Budde, Littleton, CO; and Denise Karnes, Oceanside, CA. The four grandchildren are: Ryan Keck, Sunshine Thomas, Jessica and Katrina Karnes. Great grandchildren are: Arianna and Canyon White and Jake Keck.
