Vincent Gene Sindt (Vince) was born in Holstein, Iowa, on September 13, 1934, to Burdette and Verna Sindt. The family moved to the Denver area 3 years later. In a few years, they settled in the Bancroft neighborhood, a few blocks west of Sheridan on Kentucky Street. Vince was in the inaugural freshman class of the new Alameda High School, graduating in 1952. After serving in the US Navy during the Korean War, he attended the Colorado State Teachers College (now University of Northern Colorado) in Greeley. He received his master's degree in 1962 from New Mexico Highlands University.

Vince married Joyce Nelsen on New Years Day, 1956. Debbie was born in Greeley in 1957. After graduation in 1958, Vince was employed as the science teacher at Evergreen High School. The family lived in Golden, where Kathy was born in 1960, and then in Evergreen.

In 1965, the family moved to Kwajalein, in the Marshall Islands for 3 years. Vince taught chemistry and physics at the high school. In 1968, they moved to Cheyenne, where Vince was employed by the Wyoming Department of Education.
