Dr. Virgilio "Gil" Lagera Salcedo passed peacefully from his fight with Cancer at the age of 74 on November 14, 2017.
He was born to Segundo and Remedios Salcedo on March 25, 1943 in Pozzorubio, Pangasinan, Philippines.
In 1959, he graduated High School as class valedictorian, and completed his Pre-Medicine degree in 3 years. From there, he went to Medical School at the prestigious University of Santo Thomas in Manila, Philippines, graduating as a Scholar with his Doctorate of Medicine in 1969.
After graduating, he dedicated his time as a hometown community doctor where he saved many lives. He made a huge difference everywhere he worked, as he had a big heart and loved to help those in need, especially those who could not afford health care. At times, he would accept fruits and vegetables as payment for his services.
"Doc Gil" was truly a man of the people. He was down to earth and always kind, often putting other people first before his own needs, and even served as a town chairperson in the Philippines.
In 1974, he married the love of his life, Victoria Mendoza. They lived a happy life together and moved to Colorado in August 1997 with his family. There, he worked as a Telemetry technician and unit secretary at St Joseph Hospital in Denver. He also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistance where he provided care for Elderly.
His greatest accomplishment was teaching his kids the importance of education and seeing them all graduate from College and have successful careers in the United States.
Gil was fondly known as the walking encyclopedia, had a great sense of humor, friendly, generous, hospitable, outgoing, and an excellent cook. He loved his family, and enjoyed entertaining his many friends and relatives that he often invited to the house.
Doc Gil is survived by his wife, Victoria and his children: Patty, Nikki, Bernard, Simonette, Sharon, Francis, , , and ; his grandchildren: Tyler, JT, Sammy, Noah, Sondra, Bryce, Nina, Dawson,; and his siblings, Aphrodisia, Victorino, Remedios "Remy" Jr, and Segundo "Eddie" Jr. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings: Dr. Emmanuel Salcedo, and Virginia "Rose" Salcedo Lopez.
A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on Sunday, November 26, 2017 from 3-6 pm. 190 N. Potomac St Aurora, CO 80011. His Funeral service will be held at St. Michael The Archangel on Monday, November 27, 2017 10:30 am – 11:30 am. 19099 E Floyd Ave Aurora CO 80013
