Virginia Redmond was born in Springfield Colorado on February 19th, 1930. Her father's employment required them to move around a fair amount and she spent some time living with her grandparents, whom she was very close with. She graduated from Lakewood High School and was a model for May D&F in Denver where she meant William Redmond. They married two days before her 20th birthday on February 17th, 1950. Virginia and Bill raised 8 children out on the family ranch while often holding down secondary jobs as well. Her numerous accomplishments include having served as the Democratic Chairperson for South Route County, her enormous garden, organization, with her friend Joy Walters, of the South Route County children to ride the bus to Steamboat for swim lessons and using cloth diapers with all 8 children with only ringer washer. After her husband of 58 years died in 2009, she moved to South Dakota so her daughter Deirdre and her grandchildren Caitlin, Madeline, and Claire could help care for her. She moved back to Denver last August to Sunrise Assisted Living, a place that became her home in her last months. She was proceeded in death by her granddaughter Erin Michele (d. 1984), son-in-law Doug Smith of Steamboat, her brothers and sister, her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her children Mike (Patti) of Yampa, Maureen Smith of Steamboat, Patrick (Lori) of Fort Collins, Brian (Patricia) of Gateway, CO, Tom (Tonya) of Durango, Deirdre Monahan of Rapid City, SD, Kate of Denver, and Charlie (Debbie) of Arvada. As well as 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and all the Redmonds. We will remember her baking our birthday cakes, helping to hay, her cinnamon rolls, her fall canning extravaganzas, driving to Steamboat at 4 in the morning for the breakfast rush to we could afford school clothes, and bridling our horses when we were too small to reach their heads, A reception at the Soroco Elementary School in Yampa will follow Catholic services at St. Martins of Tours at 10 am Saturday June 7th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Martins of Tours or to the charity of your choice in her name.
