Virginia M. (Wiedenhoeft) Wightman, 95, of Denver, passed away December 31st, 2015.
She was born April 1, 1920, in Henry County, Illinois, to Lane and Mabelle (Sten) Wiedenhoeft. She married Richard I. Wightman on November 25, 1945, in Illinois.
Virginia grew up in Geneseo, Illinois and graduated from Geneseo High School in 1938. She worked for a time in Chicago and met her future spouse at a USO meeting before he departed for service in WWII. They were married shortly after his return. They resided in Cincinnati, Ohio, then moved to Denver, Colorado, Heart Mountain, Wyoming, and Billings, Montana, before settling in Colorado Springs, where she lived for 58 years before moving to Denver in 2013.
In Colorado Springs, Virginia was a charter member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, which she and her family attended for years. She was active in, and held a number of offices in, the Civil Engineers Wives' Club at Ent Air Force Base. In later years, she was very active in the Colorado Springs Senior Center, where she made porcelain dolls, caned chairs, stitched hardänger and greatly enjoyed the Wednesday Crafters' club. She loved to travel and learned to snorkel in Hawaii at age 85. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her parents, her brothers Wallace and Roland Wiedenhoeft, and her sister Ruth Johnson. She is survived by her three children: Robert Wightman, of Sevierville, TN; Diane Adams of Auburn, CA; and Cynthia (Del) Rhoadarmer of Denver, CO. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Grand children are: Maury (Stephanie) Adams and Jennifer Adams (Paul) Renken; Dean (Eileen), Katherine and Dan (Theresa) Rhoadarmer; and Wesley (Tiffany), Sarah and Paul Wightman. Great-grandchildren are: Catrina Adams (Pedro) Cortez, Caitlin, Carter, Caila, Cara and Carsen Adams; Kyle Adams Murchison and Bailey Renken; Robin and Liam Rhoadarmer, and Michael Rhoadarmer; and William and Lillian Wightman. Great-great-grandchild is Noah Cortez. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Colorado Springs Senior Center (www.csseniorcenter.com).
A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home from 4:45 pm to 8 pm Thursday, January 14. Services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home Friday at 10:00 am followed by burial at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Colorado Springs at 2:30 pm.
