Walter E. Harty, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at the age of 92 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Born on January 20, 1934, in New York, New York, Walter lived a life enriched by love and service.
As a computer programmer, Walter’s career was shaped by his passion for technology and problem-solving. A high school graduate, he went on to pursue numerous certification classes, a testament to his enthusiasm for learning and his desire to stay at the forefront of a rapidly evolving field. In fact, he pursued computer technology instead of drafting as he originally intended to do because he was advised computers were the future. His professional journey reflects not only his dedication to his craft but also his innovative spirit, as he was known for always thinking outside the box to tackle challenges.
Walter's service in the Navy instilled in him a strong sense of duty, which carried over into every aspect of his life. He extended his helping hand to those around him and was a fixture at his church, Majestic View, where he volunteered as a handyman and would fix things that weren’t working just right. His love for woodworking allowed him to create, repair, and contribute to the needs of others.
Walter sometimes had a tough exterior, but later in life and once you got to know him, he was always eager to share a cup of tea or piece of pie with a friend--or lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice, to whom he would have celebrated 69 devoted years of marriage this coming July. Walter is also survived by their son, Anthony Harty.
Walter cherished his loyal companion, his dog, Nestle, and often made time for hobbies that brought him joy, such as woodworking. Though he has been reunited with his parents, Maurice and Katherine Harty, and his beloved daughter, Linda Harty, who predeceased him, his spirit continues to live on in the hearts of those whom he touched.
