Warren Harding Dodd, 93, of Lakewood, Colorado passed away on March 23, 2014 after a short illness.
He was born in Bell, California, the second of two sons to Guy and Mary Dodd. He graduated from Bell High School in 1939 and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. When America was bombed at Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the US Army. He married Bernice Barbee on November 7, 1942. Warren spent three years fighting in the South Pacific and returned home to his wife and family in l945.
Warren was employed as a salesman by Pittsburgh Paint and Glass for 35 years. He acted upon his deep faith by serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Elder and Deacon at Bear Valley Christian Church. Later in life he was an active participant in the Seniors Class at Bear Valley Church. He was a member of the Englewood Masonic Lodge. He was a master wood-crafter and this passion stayed with him throughout his life. Upon retirement, he and Bernice traveled extensively through the United States and Europe.
He is survived by two daughters, Jan Miller (Joe) of Hutchinson, Kansas and Annie Willis (Jim) of Denver, Colorado. Also surviving are grandchildren: Jim Miller (Michelle), Julie Van Maren, Maryanna Wong (Dennis), and Melinda Willis and five great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Bernice, and his brother, Phillip, of Westminster, California.
A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 901 South Sheridan Blvd, Lakewood, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27. A military burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery will be held at 10:15 a.m. Friday, March 28, followed by a memorial service at Bear Valley Church, 10001 West Jewell Avenue, Lakewood, at 12:00 p.m.
