Welcome Laura Miller died Thursday morning. She was 89.
Welcome was born on November 4, 1923, the daughter of G.R. and Marguerite Henning in Louisville, Colorado. She was raised in the mortuary there with her sister, Blossom.
After graduating from Louisville High School in 1941, Welcome enrolled at Colorado Women's College and, upon completion, went on to earn her RN at the nurses college at St. Luke's in Denver. During the war years, Welcome was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps.
Following the war, Welcome met a returned Coast Guardsman from Lafayette; she married Ralph Clinton Miller in 1946. She spent the rest of her life with him. He was with her when she died in their home in Westminster.
Welcome and Ralph have two children, Laurinda and Russell. She is also survived by four grandsons and three great granddaughters and is beloved by all of them.
Welcome's devotion to family was mirrored by her devotion to her community. She volunteered for decades with the Presbyterian church, the Arvada Center, the March of Dimes, and other community organizations. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Arvada Center.
