Sonny passed away on April 15th, 2026 at his home in Lakewood. He was born on February 21st, 1945 in Denver, Colorado. He had three sisters; Patty, Jackie and Reta. Sonny graduated from Lakewood High School in 1963. In 1964 he was hired on the Rio Grande Railroad as a switchman.
In 1965 Sonny met his wife Cecilia and they were married for 60 wonderful years. He also joined the Navy that year for 4 years and then returned to the railroad for 42 years and retired. Sonny and Cecilia had two boys Greg and Steven Stewart. Sonny had two grandchildren Brett Stewart and Kayla Disheroon whom he loved very much. He also had five great grandchildren; Elizabeth, Brett, Mia, Guy and Rebecca.
Sonny had many hobbies; golf, fishing, camping, and traveling in the fifth wheel, but his greatest joy was helping others.
Sonny is survived by his wife Cecilia, son Greg, daughter-in-law Elaine; grandchildren Brett and Kayla; granddaughter-in-law Daisy Stewart and grandson-in-law Guy Salazar and five great grandchildren. He also had many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Charlotte Stewart; his youngest son Steven as well has his sister Jackie.
A Memorial service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Thursday, May 14th at 3:00pm.
