William Lee Whipkey

September 4, 1955 — July 15, 2015

William "Whip" Lee Whipkey

Bill was a third generation Native Coloradan, survived by his Mother Dorothy M. Whipkey, Sister Doris A. (Whipkey) Lawrence, Brother Robert G. Whipkey, Nephew Kevin S. Lawrence and Niece Angela D. Lawrence; former Spouse Mary Frances Sberna and a step-daughter Kory Kleinstuber. He graduated from Aurora Central High School and held an HVAC certification. Bill spent a short time as a train driver at the Climax Mine in Leadville and the major part of his life as a Maintenance Engineer at both Marriot and Sheridan Hotels. He was an avid fan of all forms of Auto Racing and was sought out by family and friends for his mechanical skills. He was exponential in using his drywall and plumbing experience in finishing his parents' cabin where he enjoyed spending both fall hunting seasons keeping the stove stoked and summers checking on the old gold mine above the cabin. He loved animals of all kinds and especially "Amy" and "Spike." He lost his long and hard fight battling with cancer on July 14th at the age of 59. He retained his sense of humor and his commitment to family and friends.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to The Denver Hospice, 501 S Cherry St. Ste. 700, Denver, CO 80246.
