William M. Martin, Sr.

November 26, 1922 — January 11, 2013

William M. Martin Sr.

Bill was born on November 26, 1922 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 11, 2013. Bill is survived by his wife of 46 yrs. Marcia (Nylander, Poling) Martin, 2 sons William Martin Jr. (Andrea), Dave Poling (Nancy), granddaughter Kim Unruh (Tim), 3 grandsons Adam (Amilia), Eric, and Reid Poling and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was a Denver native growing up in the Globeville neighborhood. In those days the neighborhood served as the playground and place for adventure for Bill and his two younger brothers, Rich and Rob. These adventures provided the setting for many stories told by the brothers during family get togethers. Bill's sisters Grace and Isabelle were often victims of the brothers' sense of humor and spirit of play!

Bill married Esther Marie Metzler in 1941 and they had one son Bill Jr. Esther preceded Bill in death in 1965.

Bill served in the Merchant Marines during WW II and served on aviation fuel tankers in the Pacific for the duration of the war.

Bill was a carpenter, builder and artist. As a carpenter and builder he created many custom homes, many high rise office and apartment buildings, and constructed several shopping centers in the Denver area. As an artist he enjoyed woodworking, painting, carving, beading, and generally creating anything he saw with his mind's eye!

Bill and Marcia travelled extensively and always enjoyed seeing and experiencing new locations and adventures. He enjoyed the Broncos – win or lose, sailing, gardening and spending time with his family.

Bill enjoyed giving his time and talents to any one in need. His faith in Christ was important to him and is a comfort to his family. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 – "For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him."
