William Franklin "Bill" Muth, 89, of Denver passed away November 20, 2017.
Bill was born March 1, 1928 in Seattle, WA, the son of Clarence and Vera (Kershner) Muth. His family relocated to Colorado, where Bill graduated from Englewood High School. Bill served in the Marine Corp during and after World War II. Bill's return to civilian life took him to Hampton, VA, where in 1952 he met Edith "Maxine" Powell. The two married on March 11, 1954 and, in 1956, Bill returned to Colorado with his bride. Bill was employed by the Engineering/Construction firm, Stearns Rogers. Stearns specialized in building power plants and, over the next 23 years, Bill and Maxine would move to various jobsites and live in different locations in the Western United States. They raised a family that included sons, Garnons and John, and daughter Lee. In 1979, Bill and Maxine settled in Denver to stay. After retirement from Stearns Rogers, Bill served for a time as an arbitration hearing office. Bill and Maxine's son, Garnons, was born in 1963 with Downs Syndrome. Bill would become a pioneer in advocacy for people with disabilities.
Bill loved the history of the American West and of the mining towns of the Rocky Mountains. He loved jazz, and was a collector of early radios and phonographs. Bill had a warm and thoughtful manner and a sly sense of humor. He was memorable, and his passing leaves an empty place in the lives of those who knew him.
Bill is survived by his son Garnons Muth; sister, Betty Schneider; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Edith Maxine Muth; son, John Muth; daughter, Lee Muth; sister, Joan Hedrick; and parents, Clarence and Vera Muth.
Family, friends and others who were fortunate to have known Bill are invited to attend a memorial service at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 9, 2017 (gathering begins at noon) at Newcomer East Metro Chapel 190 Potomac St. Aurora, CO. In accordance with Bill's wishes, there was cremation. On completion of the service, a reception will be held at the same facility.
