Wilma J. Sandoval, a spirited and devoted woman who touched many lives, passed away unexpectedly in her home in Denver, Colorado, on May 9, 2026. Born on August 5, 1954, in Alamosa, Colorado, Wilma lived a life full of love, resilience, and dedication. She was known for her fiery spirit—standing at just 4 feet 11.5 inches, she was a true firecracker whose feistiness was felt by all who knew her.
Wilma's journey began in the quiet town of Alamosa but blossomed in Denver, where she graduated from West High School. It was in grade school, when they were just in second or third grade, that she met her lifelong love and husband, Anthony Sandoval. Their bond endured the test of time, a testament to a love story deeply cherished though now she has reunited with him, sharing a cigarette in the peace beyond this world.
Her career was marked by compassion and dedication as she worked for many years in the medical field, retiring as a Certified Nursing Assistant, most recently serving at the Denver Health Medical Center. Her work was a reflection of her caring nature and her desire to help others, a legacy treasured by those whose lives she touched.
One of Wilma’s proudest accomplishments was raising her three beloved children. Her sons, Anthony “Thomas” Sandoval and Jeremy Sandoval and daughter, Sara Sanchez (Juan), carry forward her strength and love. She also cherished her grandchildren Miyah, Angelique, Jason Jr., and Emilee, whose lives were brightened by her unwavering devotion.
Wilma is remembered fondly by her sisters Mary Montoya, Neoma Correa Maes, Annette Correa and Christine Correa; her brother Andrew Correa; her sister-in-law Clara Gonzales—with whom she shared joyful moments, including trips to Black Hawk to gamble and play slot machines, especially the “Whales of Cash,” creating memories full of laughter and warmth. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who hold her close in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Anthony Sandoval; her grandson, Anthony James Michael Brandt; her brothers Frankie Correa, Isaac Correa Jr., and Joey Correa; and her parents, Madeline and Isaac Correa.
The community and family will gather to honor Wilma’s vibrant life and celebrate her; a visitation will be held on May 22, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Metro, located at 901 S Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO 80226. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the same location.
Wilma’s memory lives on through her family, her friends, and the many lives she touched with her care, her courage, and her unforgettable spark. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her spirit remains vibrant—a firecracker, forever shining brightly in our hearts.
