Bonnie Jean Kugler-Roberts

Bonnie was born to Dorothy Ellen (Shepperd) Kugler and Paul G. Kugler on July 26, 1944, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Sterling, Colorado. Bonnie danced with Our Lord on May 21, 2016. She was 71 years old.

Bonnie was also known to family and friends as Bonnie Jean, and Jeanie. She was the youngest of five children, the only one born in a hospital.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene O. Roberts on September 8, 2014, and her father, Paul Kugler, whom she dearly loved.

She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Kugler (age 104, born in 1912) of Sterling, Colorado; three brothers, Dean and wife Doris, Dennis, and Terry and his wife Nancy, all of New Raymer, Colorado; one sister, Bernita Babb of Craig, Colorado. Also surviving is Gene's daughter, Callie; granddaughters Carly and Kylee and numerous nieces and nephews: Roy, Joe, Jim and Jay Kugler; Deb Marks and John Babb; Patti Kugler-Moots, Danny Hilliard; Steve, Lynelle, and Kristen Kugler and many great nephews, nieces and cousins.

Bonnie attended twelve of schooling graduating from New Raymer High School. She was salutatorian of her class, and earned a Joint Honor Scholarship to Colorado State University and Pueblo College (now CSU-Pueblo), earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. At a later date, she attended Front Range College, Metro State College, Community College and Red Rocks Community College, earning advanced credits in order to sit for the CPA exam. Bonnie also completed a course in the Becker CPA Review program, a course in Real Estate, courses at H&R Block Tax program, and was a graduate of Barbizon School of Modeling.

Bonnie was a numbers' person. She held a wide variety of interesting accounting positions in Pueblo, Colorado, including KDZA Radio Station, Marvin Memorials (a monument company), Alamo Furniture and Furniture Warehouse International, Educators' Credit Union, and was Controller at Pueblo County School District #70.

In 1978, she moved to Denver where she worked for the State of Colorado as an advanced Grants Accountant, Administrator and Auditor. Upon three different occasions she worked in the Governor's Office, and under Governors Lamb, Romer, and Owens, but worked mainly under the Department of Local Affairs, Division of Local Affairs. Bonnie received many awards and Letters of Commendation from employers, supervisors, and grantees. She worked for H&R Block preparing income taxes part-time for 3 years while working full-time with the State.

She retired in 1999 with 32 years of School and Government service.

Bonnie met Gene Roberts in 1981, and they married on December 27, 1984. They celebrated almost 30 years of marriage at his passing.

Bonnie had many interests. She loved their dogs, their granddaughters, their back yard and garden, travel, sewing, trips to the ranch and visiting with family. She was very beloved by her family.

Bonnie lovingly cared for Gene through three types of cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease and other health issues. She was his caregiver for 11 years with Alzheimer's disease. She always loved Gene's humor and wit.

Bonnie's life was taken with the incurable cancer, Pancreatic Cancer. She bravely fought the cancer with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation-chemotherapy for 4.5 years (she was diagnosed on July 25, 2011).

She always expressed her appreciation for the help, support, and prayers of many family and friends. Her sweet spirit will live on in their memories and hearts.
