Wayne E. Riegel , 79, of Denver, passed away May 15, 2017.

He was born July 11, 1937 in Wiley, Colorado, the son of Guy L. and Nellie M. (Grant) Riegel.

He was a graduate of Wiley High School where he played football and ran track. He received an Associates Degree from Pueblo College and later attended Metro State University. In his younger days, Wayne enjoyed skiing and golfing.

On October 2, 1966, he married Linda Freeburg at Trinity United Methodist Church in Denver.

Wayne was a firefighter with the Denver Fire Department for 33 years, retiring as a Lieutenant.

Wayne enjoyed repairing cars. He was an avid Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan. Wayne also enjoyed bicycling and rode his bike until he couldn't anymore. He also preferred road trips in his station wagon. He also liked dogs and enjoyed taking care of his sons' dogs. Above all, he was a loving husband, brother, uncle, father and grandfather. He would always make time to attend his children's activities. He loved children, especially his grandchildren. He was devoted to the care of his son, Bill.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Riegel; three sons,William Riegel, Gregory (Candy) Riegel and Jonathan (Jennifer) Riegel; five grandchildren, Ryan Riegel, Luke Riegel, Leah Riegel, Thomas Riegel and Alice Riegel; brother, Robert (Maris) Riegel; sister-in-law, Edith Riegel and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He is preceded in death by Father, Guy L. Riegel; Mother, Nellie M. Riegel; two brothers, Norman Riegel and Clyde Riegel and two sisters-in-law, Betty Riegel and Mildred Riegel.
