In Memory Of
Nona E. Everett
1928 - 2014

Nona Everett was born in Kansas City, Kansas. She had a sister, Yvonne, who was two years older, and a brother, Jiles, who was six years younger. After her mother passed away when she was eight years old, she lived with her grandparents in Kansas City, her father in Monroe, Michigan, and her aunt in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She graduated from Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas.

In 1949 she traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to marry Paul L. Everett of Kansas City, Kansas in a ceremony performed by Reverend Charles W. Fox, who previously pastored a church in Kansas City. They settled in Brooklyn, New York, and had three sons, Laurence, Edward and Warren.

In 1956 they moved to Chicago Illinois, where specialized medical care was available for Edward, and in 1961 to Baltimore, Maryland, where a job opportunity was available for Paul. Nona too found a job opportunity with IBM Corporation, (for whom she worked until she retired) while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University Without Walls program sponsored by Morgan State College.

After raising their sons, she and Paul went their separate ways, she was remarried to Richard Holcomb, and moved to Aurora, Colorado. Though her second marriage was brief in comparison to her first, she found enjoyment in her aquaintences in Denver, and found the Denver area a suitable place to rear her grandaughter, Alesta between the ages of four and seventeen following the death of Edward, her son and Alesta's father, until Alesta's mother moved to Denver. Her love for her church family at Park Hill United Methodist Church never ended.

Nona's brother, Jiles Sims, passed away in 2010 after living near Fresno, California. Her sister, Yvonne Kinchen, died in 2013 after living in Detroit, Michigan. She is survived by sons Laurence Everett, of Ellicott City, Maryland, Warren Everett of Baltimore, Maryland, de facto adopted son Kunle Taiwo of Aurora, Colorado, grandson Laurence Everett, Jr. of Catonsville, Maryland, and grandaughter Alesta Everett of Phoenix, Arizona.
